(re) barn

Circa Morris-Nunn Architects

2015

Circa Morris-Nunn designed (Re)barn as an adaptive reuse residential project that has transformed ‘Acton’ a 200 year old early colonial manor house into a single family home. This building ‘is living cultural heritage’ as it respectfully has a new outbuilding extension showing spiritually the traditional connections to the location of an open courtyard in the back of a homestead. The 1820 original barn has been refurbished retaining the original stone and timber that had suffered a serve amount damage and therefore the barn and to be (Re)paired and this was done through painstakingly dismantling the original materials and (Re)building the structure into a functional family house. This method of restoring allows the respect to be given to the original convict owners of the building with all new additions and work having to be respectful to the ancient colonial components. The (Re) Barn won the Alterations and Additions Commendation for Australian Institute of Architects (TAS) in 2016.
