Brett's House Rocky Hill, also known as Avalon Coastal Retreat, is located in the heart of Tasmania's east coast at Swansea. Rosevear architects designed this Modernist coastal dreaming home that overlooks the astonishing views of the sunset sky and Great Oyster Bay as its integration into the site forms a balance between land and sea.
The architecture creates intimacy between the building and the enclosed spaces and the infinite horizon to create maximum comfort in the Tasmanian wilderness. The modernist materiality of glass and create close connections to the site's context immersing the visitors into the wilderness of Tasmania. This is through the large 90 degree angles planes of glass that create a seamless view out towards the water and woodlands nearby.
Avalon Coastal Retreat won the Residential Award TAS in 2005 and the James Blackburn Triennial Award in 2006.
