Corumbene

Morris-Nunn + Associates

1997

Corumbene is an aged care facility designed unlike any other, with true care for the occupants and a thoughtful design that brings standard nursing home facilities into a familiar, comfortable world. This aged care facility contains all the rooms necessary for the health and wellbeing of the occupants, yet they have been concealed and designed to replicate a 1930s town in the Derwent Valley, a time where the occupants grew up and thrived. The entrances have been disguised as miniature shop fronts to instill a homely, welcoming feeling, where the nurses’ station appears like an olde-style chemist shop, and the treatment room is hidden behind the familiar facade of a barber’s shop. Corumbene was the recipient of the 1998 Tasmanian Interior Architecture Award and was a 1998 National Award Finalist.
