Devils Corner, designed by Cumulus is one of Tasmania’s largest vineyards that consists of a scenic lookout, cellar door and a local food market. This tourist attraction is constructed from 10 repurposed shipping containers that compose the lookout and market area. These offer the building a rectangular form with structural integrity and well suit the remote location for easy transportability and construction. The configuration of the shipping containers resembles the traditional rural settlement in a contemporary design on the east coast of Tasmania.
The projecting and intersecting shipping containers have been cladded with timber to resemble the rural and agricultural site qualities while the interior of the container has been retained to reveal the raw construction. In 2016 devils corner received National Architecture Awards- Commercial Architecture, Tasmanian Architecture Awards- Colin Philp Award for Commercial Architecture and the 2016 Tasmanian Architecture Awards- Colorbond Steel Architecture.
This space is designed to enjoy Tasmania's award-winning wines while overlooking the hazard mountains of the east coast of Tasmania.
