GASP - Stage 2

Room 11 Architects

2013

GASP (Glenorchy Art & Sculpture Park) - Stage 2, is a public pavilion cantilevering over the water’s edge in Glenorchy, designed by Hobart based architecture firm, Room 11. Accessed by the colourful walkway along the River Derwent, GASP is a striking architectural form that contains some seating and public toilets to be used by walkers and visitors. GASP is a popular destination for those with an interest in photography, due to the unique lighting qualities within, and the careful framing of mountain and water views. Unlike GASP - Stage 1 with cooking facilities and more seating options, this building is more of a place to visit and admire the unique architectural beauty. GASP - Stage 2 won the 2014 Dirk Bolt Award for Urban Design, with stand-out qualities, including a gravity defying, cantilevering concrete form over the river, and vibrant red and yellow glazing that tints and creates an artistic film over the natural views.
