Rosevear Architects designed an alternation and addition to Jenny’s House that is a small red brick heritage dwelling located in Battery Point, Hobart. The singular storey addition located at the back of the house has an open planned volume that opens out to Jenny's flourishing and intriguing garden.
The presence of heritage in existing building is retained with the original exterior wall of the cottage forming a new interior wall adding heritage characteristic to the new addition which utilises contemporary concrete, steel, glass and masonry addition, accommodating a kitchen dining living room. This addition adds privacy to the rear yard and enhances the profound connection to the garden setting allowing the owner to establish her own sense of belonging to the setting, which is layered in over one hundred years of history.
Jenny’s house has won many awards including the 2016 The Roy Sharrington Smith Award for Heritage Architecture in 2016 along with the Award for Residential Architecture - Houses (Alterations and Additions).
