MOSS 25 is a boutique hotel situated in the centre of Hobart's historic properties in Salamanca. Circa Morris-Nunn Chua Architects designed 21 hotel rooms by repurposing and recycling the upper floors of the historic sandstone building along Salamanca place, which were largely left redundant for many decades.
In addition, this building integrated natural planted elements with the historic building fabric to create this tourist attraction to highlight the significance of Tasmanians architecture. An unexpected green ‘living’ wall and indoor gardens have been installed to design a threshold from the guest rooms, bringing Tasmania's wilderness into the urban environment. This is complemented by the bold black concrete and green tinted glazing to design a contemporary hotel within the conversion of the historic buildings.
This building designed in 2019 has been recognised as an award-winning building with the 2021 Tasmanian Architecture Medal and the 2021 Colin Philp Award.
