The Mt Wellington Pinnacle Toilet Facility, designed by Liminal Studio, is a public amenity building that exceeds its intended purpose. This building, sitting atop Mount Wellington, a popular tourist destination, is an elegant piece of architecture that nests respectfully on site, offering expansive views of Hobart and beyond.
Liminal’s main objective was not to replicate nature in the design, but to create a building considerate of the site, that does not aim to detract or take away from the mountain and views. Hence, the focus was placed on the horizontal elements, reducing the height of the structure, and thoughtfully emphasising the horizon in the distance.
The building itself has a lightness created by the walls of glass, that offer spectacular views within, and the transparency allows one to see through parts of the building from the exterior.
