Northern Midlands Council Chambers is located on the north side of the Northern Midlands city area, Tasmania. Circa Morris-Nunn won the design competition for extensions to the Northern Midlands Council Chambers. The strategy of the design concept is to add the additional required space by inserting a new floor within the existing volume under the original roof, keeping the external facades completely intact, thus achieving the constraints of a frugal budget. Furthermore, they also created a cylinder-shaped internal atrium in the interior entry lobby. And the internal side of the new walls of the atrium was entirely clad with panels faced with discarded merino leather to symbolise the surrounding rural landscape of Longford. In conclusion, Northern Midlands Council Chambers won an award in 1995 for Recycling Award and Interiors Award in Tasmania. The improved building project received two architectural awards simultaneously in different categories.
