Peppermint Bay

Terroir

2003

Peppermint Bay, designed by Tasmanian architecture firm, Terroir, is a highly regarded restaurant that celebrates local and seasonal produce. Peppermint Bay received Commendation for the 2004 Interior Architecture Award and was the recipient of the 2005 Commercial Architecture Award. Defining features of this building include the varying ceiling heights encapsulating the movement through the space, large window walls that open up the interior to the garden and ocean views beyond, as well as the respect for the 100-year-old oak tree on site, that was essential to Terroir’s design decisions. Peppermint Bay can be accessed by car or boat, with the ferry leaving from Brooke Street Pier in Hobart, and then winding south down the river. Terroir has continued this pleasant, meandering journey by creating a labyrinthine pathway to reach the restaurant, crafting an engaging visitor experience.
