Pilgrim Uniting Church Worship and Community Centre

Robert Morris-Nunn

1983

Glenn Smith and Robert Morris-Nunn designed The Pilgrim Church Walkway situated in the heart of Launceston CBD, Paterson Street, in 1983. The Pilgrim Church Walkway is an excellent shortcut between Paterson Street and Civic Square, used for sitting in quiet and the small prayer space. The architects utilise pointed-arch forms in the walkway to respond to the form and structure of the Pilgrim Church, with steel construction and glass infill used to counter the weight and opacity of the Gothic Revival. Furthermore, the aim is to improve the light and transparency of The Walkway. The Pilgrim Church Walkway is one of the famous icons of postmodernist architecture in Tasmania.
