Stillwater Seven designed by Cumulus, is an adaptive reuse design that inherits the heritage of an 1830s flour mill to construct seven luxurious, boutique accommodation.
This flour mill has remarkably survived extreme conditions, with a major structural fire and two centuries of climatic weather conditions. These elements are reflected in history held within the building, as the black interior is a representative of the burnt timber framing and the Inclusion of the old, surviving large trusses and sandstone are complemented in the design with the luxurious rich, red patterned carpet that adds to the buildings age and expensiveness of the accommodation.
Stillwater seven won the 2020 Tasmanian Architecture Awards- Commercial Architecture – Commendation. Cumulus committed to preserve the buildings rich heritage by being sensitivity to the original fabric while designing a contemporary experience that utilises the lower light to create a more intimate space drawing to the view over the Tamar river.
