Stoney Rise Cellar Door is located in the heart of the Tamar Valley, Tasmania. It was designed by Cumulus to create a space suitable for wine tastings, dinners and different kinds of gathering while being built sustainably to reduce environmental impacts.
The material pallet was kept minimal, utilising materials that would improve with age to resemble the same with fine wine. On site, balancing indoor- outdoor spaces was crucial as the extreme winds are prominent. Maximising the different faces to the landscape was important depending on your perspective ensured eastern views of kanamaluka (River Tamar), and western views of trousseau grapes were obtained.
Locally sourcing, cost effective and longer lasting materials brought the design together creating a tourist attraction that integrated the building within the Tamar Valley. Stone Rise Cellar Door won the 2021 Tasmanian Architecture Awards- Commercial Architecture and the 2021 Eat Drink Design Awards- Best Retail Space – Shortlisted.
