Strahan Visitor Centre is situated on the waterfront in the west coast of Tasmania and is the hub of exploring and understanding how to navigate the area.
The building designed by Forward Viney Woollan and Robert Morris-Nunn in 1992 and gives a sense of Tasmanian history through the materiality of the architecture used in the visitors centre, encouraging them to explore the Tasmania's wilderness. Half rough hewn local timber, half glass and steel provokes the visitors to be inspired and reflect on the surrounding landscapes, which considers the challenging nature.
This building has been awarded many awards including in 1997 Australian Timber Design Award Finalist, 1998 Recycling Award and in 2000 Australasian Lightweight Structures Design Award.
