The Ether Building at MONA (Museum of Old and New Art) was designed by Jaws Architects in collaboration with Craig Rosevear Architects in 2005. This building is located down the Derwent River at Berriedale, north of Hobart and is Tasmania’s oldest commercial winery and vineyard.
This modernist building is constructed from concrete, steel, aluminium, timber and glass to design with the site's context and building's function. The Ether Pavilion has utilised the significant physical and cultural site context with the building occupying the apex of the site and captures the views across the river and sunlight. These sites' characteristics make it an ideal space to have an outdoor wine making facility and have a direct interface with the winery.
The building consists of an entry, reception, lobby and function rooms on the lower level and restaurant and wine tasting bar on the upper level. The Ether Building won the National Commendation and Commercial Award TAS in 2006.
