The Islington Hotel, designed by Morris-Nunn and Associates, is an adaptive reuse project that has reinstated the grand and elegant nature of this beautiful, colonial building. This building, once a mansion, now functions as a boutique hotel, with guest suites in the historic house, and the glass conservatory addition acting as a welcoming, central dining room. The Islington Hotel received Commendation for the 2006 Heritage Architecture Award. In this project, they scraped back the 1980s additions that took away from the heritage value of the property, revealing its original nature and showcasing the local craftsmanship and materials that went into its construction. To compliment and draw attention to the old, a sleek, contemporary glass conservatory fills the void between the heritage buildings, and its gable roof form aesthetically incorporates it with the existing.
