Christopher Clinton Architect

Christopher Clinton Architect is a Hobart-based architectural studio founded by Christopher Clinton, who serves as the director and principal architect. With a trade background and nearly two decades of experience, Clinton established the practice to combine craftsmanship, technical expertise, and design innovation. The studio operates solely from its Hobart office, focusing on projects that balance material honesty, heritage sensitivity, and contemporary design.

The firm is recognised for its finely detailed, buildable, and contextually aware architecture, reflecting Clinton’s deep understanding of materials—especially timber—and the construction process. Its work often explores adaptive reuse, small-space design, and socially responsive housing.

Notable projects include Finlay Street, a heritage renovation that received the 2024 Tasmanian Architecture Awards for Heritage and Residential Architecture; Isabel and Elsie, trauma-informed housing for women and children; New Town Road House, winner of the 2015 Peter Willmott Small Project Award; and Bett Gallery, a minimalist heritage fit-out.

The studio’s philosophy centres on craftsmanship, collaboration, and sustainability—creating enduring architecture that respects history, context, and community needs. Its guiding principles are practical design rigour, truthful use of materials, and socially responsible outcomes, integrating both beauty and purpose in every project.
