Cumulus Studio
Cumulus Studio is an award-winning architectural practice founded in 2011 by Kylee Scott, Todd Henderson, and Peter Walker, later joined by Keith Westbrook in 2015. With offices in Hobart, Launceston, Melbourne, and Adelaide, the studio is recognized for its innovative approach to heritage adaptation, tourism, and environmentally responsive architecture.
Notable projects include Pumphouse Point, an adaptive reuse of a 1940s hydroelectric station into a wilderness retreat, and Symmons Plains Homestead, a restoration of an 1839 Georgian estate integrating contemporary design. Other key works span cultural, tourism, and residential architecture, including Dove Lake Viewing Shelter, Callington Mill Distillery, and the Cradle Mountain Master Plan.
Cumulus has received multiple accolades, such as the 2016 National Architecture Awards Commercial Architecture Commendation for Devil’s Corner, the 2023 Award for Public Architecture for Dove Lake Viewing Shelter, and the 2024 Emerging Architect Prize for Keith Westbrook.
The firm emphasizes a design ethos that combines rugged simplicity, contextual sensitivity, and sustainability. Their architecture balances precise geometry and minimalism with warmth, authenticity, and locally sourced materials. Collaborations with Tasmanian designers further reinforce their connection to place, while their future vision integrates luxury, environmental responsiveness, and cultural heritage.
