Room 11 Architects
Room 11 is a Tasmanian architectural studio founded in 2002 by graduates of the University of Tasmania. Led by Thomas Bailey and Nathan Crump, the practice emerged from a collaborative ethos and has since gained national and international recognition. Headquartered in Hobart with a studio in Melbourne, Room 11 works across diverse scales, from bespoke residential homes to significant cultural, urban, and landscape projects. Their practice is defined by a sensitivity to site, climate, and material honesty.
Major works include Little Big House on Mount Wellington, GASP! (Glenorchy Art & Sculpture Park), D’Entrecasteaux House, Lookout House, Lighthouse, and Clifton Beach House. These projects exemplify the studio’s reductive yet experiential approach to architecture.
Room 11 has won multiple Australian Institute of Architects Awards in residential, urban design, and sustainable architecture. Internationally, they exhibited at the Venice Biennale, representing Australian design alongside leading global architects.
The studio’s philosophy is rooted in elemental, experiential design. Their architecture balances clarity, spatial drama, and environmental responsiveness, fusing craftsmanship, regional identity, and modernist restraint to create work that is both timeless and site-specific
